Why has this type of radar been phased out?
From the animation, it can be seen that this type of radar uses a mechanical motor to drive the sensor for scanning. This mode of operation results in a high failure rate, with the radar breaking down in 3-6 months. It has a low scan rate, low sensitivity, high noise levels, and is not waterproof.
